Epstein-Barr virus-associated Hodgkin's disease following renal transplantation
Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) have been recognized as a complication of immunosuppression and occur with a reported incidence of 1 to 8% of recipients receiving solid organ transplantation. PTLD are classified into two major categories, polymorphic and monomorphic PTLD. The majority of the monomorphic PTLD cases are non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of B-cell origin. Hodgkin's disea...
متن کاملEpstein–Barr virus-associated gastric carcinoma 33 years after kidney transplantation
Epstein-Barr virus-associated gastric carcinoma (EBVaGC) is a unique type of gastric cancer, defined as the presence of EBV in gastric tumour cells, usually identified by in situ hybridization. A poorly differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma was detected in a kidney recipient 33 years after transplantation. Neoplastic epithelial cells were EBV positive by in situ hybridization. Gene sequencing c...
متن کاملRapidly growing Epstein-Barr virus-associated pulmonary lymphoma after heart transplantation.
There is strong evidence to show an association of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection with the development of post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease. We report the rapid development of a malignant lymphoma in a heart transplant recipient, which occurred within less than eight weeks. The diagnosis of this malignant high grade B-cell lymphoma was established by open lung biopsy, and classifi...
متن کاملEpstein-Barr virus lymphoproliferation after bone marrow transplantation.
We review 15 cases of secondary B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders that occurred among 2,475 patients who received allogeneic bone marrow transplants (BMTs) at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle) between 1969 and 1987. The histopathologic findings in 14 of the 15 patients spanned a wide spectrum of lymphoproliferative lesions. One patient had features characteristic of angioi...
متن کاملEpstein-Barr virus associated graft failure following heart/lung transplantation.
A case is described of late pulmonary graft failure in a heart/lung transplant recipient. The major characteristics were alveolar fibrosis and a restrictive physiological deficit. Epstein-Barr virus was implicated as an aetiological agent using immunohistochemical analysis and by a response to treatment with ganciclovir.
