Numerous studies conducted on the Iraq War have consistently highlighted ongoing controversy surrounding its justification, even to this day. In response, several political and linguistic delved into issue, seeking understand how George W. Bush managed persuade global community support removal of Iraqi government. This particular study focuses analyzing speeches, specifically State Union Speeches, as these genres play a pivotal role in shaping public opinion War. The analysis employs combination quantitative qualitative methods, using Saeed’s [1] framework examine use epistemic modal verbs. findings reveal that employed various persuasive tactics, relying heavily ten recurring functions verbs within both genres. These include anticipation, assertion, assumption, conviction, hedge, incitement, likelihood/probability, prediction, tentative tricky/elusiveness. primary purpose behind was effectively target audience regarding Bush’s activities objectives resisting ultimately eliminating Saddam Hussein’s regime, rather than solely informing them.
