Epi‐parasitic mistletoes don't parasitise their host's host and this supports the immunity hypothesis for host choice

چکیده

Abstract Mistletoes have much higher transpiration rates than their hosts. This is the basis for ecological “compatibility hypothesis” host choice. The inability of mistletoes to penetrate a and connect its vascular system competing “immunity hypothesis”. Epi‐parasites would transpire faster mistletoe, which must host. Therefore, epi‐parasites should be able parasitise host's I surveyed epi‐parasite choice at site found this did not happen. Globally about quarter all are obligate. supports immunity hypothesis.

Innate immunity: Lipoproteins take their Toll on the host

The recognition of infecting microbes followed by the induction of an effective immune response is essential for the survival of most multicellular organisms. It is equally important, however, that the immune response is not induced upon the recognition of self antigens, or non-infectious, innocuous, non-self antigens. So, how does the immune system decide which antigens to respond to and which...

Robust Host Mobility Supports for Adaptive

Service proxy framework is a framework for constructing adaptive mobile applications based on the client-mediator-server architecture. The goal of our framework is to provide an infrastructure for building adaptive mobile applications. Using the service proxy framework, an application can change its behavior when the operational environment is changed dynamically. This paper presents host mobil...

Host specificity in parasitic plants—perspectives from mistletoes

Host specificity has been investigated for centuries in mistletoes, viruses, insects, parasitoids, lice and flukes, yet it is poorly understood. Reviewing the numerous studies on mistletoe host specificity may contribute to our understanding of these plants and put into context the dynamics at work in root parasitic plants and animal parasites. The mechanisms that determine host specificity in ...

Patterns of host-plant choice in bees of the genus Chelostoma: the constraint hypothesis of host-range evolution in bees.

To trace the evolution of host-plant choice in bees of the genus Chelostoma (Megachilidae), we assessed the host plants of 35 Palearctic, North American and Indomalayan species by microscopically analyzing the pollen loads of 634 females and reconstructed their phylogenetic history based on four genes and a morphological dataset, applying both parsimony and Bayesian methods. All species except ...
