Abstract Background Refractory constipation and faecal incontinence among adults is a common presentation to surgical clinics. ACE stoma has been tried proven as successful treatment modality in children. Although it an acceptable adults, there little prospective evidence available regarding its use hence not yet come vogue. Methods A literature review was carried out using PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Cinahl Scopus for studies involving with refractory or incontinence; view determine Stoma safe adult population. Results total of 27 were identified through database searches. 6 full text articles included the describing 209 patients; male female ratio 1:3.4, mean age 35 years follow up 42.9 months. Complications discussed include perioperative long-term stenosis (29%) leak rates (60%); affecting quality life. No statistical difference noted different types Conduit used. There significant heterogeneity amongst studies. Conclusions without complications; however reveal that this can be offered carefully selected patients fecal incontinence.
