Environmental Noise Assessment of Holding Approach Procedures Using a Multi-Level Simulation Framework

Computational models of sufficient quality are indispensable to quantitatively assess aircraft noise reduction measures. Within this study, a multi-level simulation framework is established in order predict the environmental holding approach procedures by coupling from three different domains: flight performance calculation employing base data (BADA), jet engine using software Gasturb and simulations based on sonAIR. Two concepts investigated, namely, vertical stack linear hold point merge. The study conducted considering generic air traffic scenarios at single-runway airport. Thereby, investigated statistical analysis existing airports thus assumed be representative. As aircraft’s emission depends both performance, reliable results can expected only if all individual challenges interdependencies accounted for simultaneously. Addressing challenge main contribution presented work. show plausibility proposed framework, supporting its use investigate impact scenarios.
