Environmental life cycle assessment of heating systems in the UK: Comparative assessment of hybrid heat pumps vs. condensing gas boilers

چکیده

Residential space heating is one of the major contributors to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and hence a priority sector decarbonise in transition Net Zero target by 2050 UK. To assess environmental impacts current system potential alternatives UK, this study conducted comparative LCA condensing boiler hybrid pump for common type UK’s existing houses (a semi-detached house). The functional unit defined as delivering whole lifetime (20 years) system. results suggest that heat potentially saves 30% GHG compared core scenarios (4.5E + 04 kg CO2-eq/FU vs 6.4 E respectively). also shows 13% 48% emission reduction terrestrial acidification, photochemical oxidant formation, particulate matter formation fossil depletion. However, emits 3 6 times more terms human toxicity, water depletion metal than boiler. production phase contributes around 50% impact toxicity both scenarios, while use dominates other selected categories. combustion natural electricity are causes dominance all categories excepting toxicity. sensitivity support robustness results. Further work needed understand role pumps can play residential decarbonisation under different uptake, household behaviour wider UK energy decarbonisation.

Optimal operation strategy of the hybrid heating system composed of centrifugal heat pumps and gas boilers

Centrifugal heat pump has to be coupled with gas boiler to supply high temperature water in radiator heating system. Regarding to hybrid heating system (HHS), operation strategy has significant impact on its annual energy consumption and cost. In this paper, the optimal operation strategy of the HHS composed of sewage-source centrifugal heat pumps and gas boilers was analyzed. Firstly, the perf...

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

Life cycle assessment of shale gas in the UK

The remarkable US growth of shale gas and the associated decrease in the US natural gas prices has catalysed an increasing interest of shale gas resource exploration in other areas of the world. Commercial drilling operations have not yet commenced, but exploration is taking place in some European countries, including the UK. Major environmental concerns, regarding the amount and the handling m...
