چکیده
Abstract Antifouling paint particles (APPs) and associated metals have been identified in sediments around boatyards marinas globally, but the effects of APPs on benthic organisms are largely unknown. Sub-lethal endpoints were measured following laboratory exposures harbour ragworm (Hediste diversicolor ) common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) to environmentally relevant concentrations biocidal (‘modern’ ‘historic’) biocide-free (‘silicone’) added clean estuarine sediment. Further, 5-day median lethal (LC50) (EC50) for modern calculated. For ragworms, significant decreases weight (15.7%; p

Hull roughness and antifouling paint
The fouling of ships and propellers results in a reduction of speed, increased fuel consumption, and consequently, losses of both time and money. The previous studies found that a speed reduction of 0.03 knots would occur due to increased friction resulting from 10μm increase in surface roughness. This would increase fuel consumption by 1%, energy savings can then be easily converted into emiss...
متن کاملAntifouling Compounds from Marine Invertebrates
In this review, a comprehensive overview about the antifouling compounds from marine invertebrates is described. In total, more than 198 antifouling compounds have been obtained from marine invertebrates, specifically, sponges, gorgonian and soft corals.
متن کاملToxic reaction to inhaled paint fumes.
An acute confusional state was observed to follow heavy exposure to polyurethane gloss paint fumes in a previously healthy 60 year old man. This state remitted over a 3-day period, but was followed by transient bone marrow suppression and evidence of liver cell damage. The corroborated absence of other toxins and the temporal association of exposure to paint fumes suggest that a volatile paint ...
متن کاملAnthropogenic sources of underwater sound can modify how sediment-dwelling invertebrates mediate ecosystem properties
Coastal and shelf environments support high levels of biodiversity that are vital in mediating ecosystem processes, but they are also subject to noise associated with mounting levels of offshore human activity. This has the potential to alter the way in which species interact with their environment, compromising the mediation of important ecosystem properties. Here, we show that exposure to und...
متن کاملCopper emissions from antifouling paint on recreational vessels.
Trace metals, especially copper, are commonly occurring contaminants in harbors and marinas. One source of copper to these environs is copper-based antifouling coatings used on vessel hulls. The objective of this study was to measure dissolved copper contributions from recreational vessel antifouling coatings for both passive leaching and hull cleaning activities. To accomplish this goal, three...
