Microscale Temperature Measurements near the Contact Line of an Evaporating Thin Film in a V-Groove
Thin-film evaporation of heptane in a V-groove geometry is experimentally investigated. The groove is made of fused quartz, and electrical heating of a thin layer of titanium coated on the backside of the quartz substrate provides a constant heat flux. The effects of liquid feeding rate on the temperature suppression in the thin-film region and on the meniscus shape are explored. High resolutio...
متن کاملA microscale model for thin-film evaporation in capillary wick structures
A numerical model is developed for the evaporating liquid meniscus in wick microstructures under saturated vapor conditions. Four different wick geometries representing common wicks used in heat pipes, viz., wire mesh, rectangular grooves, sintered wicks and vertical microwires, are modeled and compared for evaporative performance. The solid-liquid combination considered is copper-water. Steady...
متن کاملEntropy generation rate during laser pulse heating: Effect of laser pulse parameters on entropy generation rate
Laser pulse heating of solid surface and entropy generation during the heating process are considered. Time exponentially decaying pulse is accommodated in the analysis and the laser pulse parameter (b1/b2) resulting in minimum entropy generation rate is computed. Analytical solutions for temperature rise are presented and volumetric entropy generation rate is formulated. Two laser pulses resul...
متن کاملAn Entropy Dissipation–entropy Estimate for a Thin Film Type Equation∗
We prove a lower bound on the rate of relaxation to equilibrium in the H1 norm for a thin film equation. We find a two stage relaxation, with power law decay in an initial interval, followed by exponential decay, at an essentially optimal rate, for large times. The waiting time until the exponential decay sets in is explicitly estimated.
متن کاملBlending of nanoscale and microscale in uniform large–area sculptured thin–film architectures
The combination of large thickness (> 3 μm), large–area uniformity (75 mm diameter), high growth rate (up to 0.4 μm/min) in assemblies of complex–shaped nanowires on lithographically defined patterns has been achieved for the first time. The nanoscale and the microscale have thus been blended together in sculptured thin films with transverse architectures. SiOx (x ≈ 2) nanowires were grown by e...
