Entrepreneurial Motivation, Psychological Capital, and Business Success of Young Entrepreneurs in the DRC

The proponents of the entrepreneurial motivation dichotomy have argued that opportunity-driven entrepreneurs are more likely to succeed and sustain in entrepreneurship, unlike people who start-up businesses out necessity. However, disagreement still exists on why under which conditions former might outperform latter. This research contributes this debate by examining mediation role psychological capital relationship between business success among youths. study relied a random sample 295 young surveyed from Bukavu Democratic Republic Congo (DRC). We applied partial least squares analyze hypothesized relationships. Evidence for positive effect opportunity-led was found, but findings did not support any direct success. Instead, positively significantly mediated paper makes distinctive new contribution understanding intriguing controversial dichotomy—a relationship. To end, we found opportunity 3% chance succeeding compared necessity entrepreneurs, because latter 4% dimensions capital. has policy implications, as it reveals great importance promoting success, thus reducing unemployment youths, offers tips can be built or improved.
