Entertaining tensions: teaching with and learning from popular culture in professional education

چکیده

This article discusses findings from an ongoing qualitative studies about the incorporation of popular culture in university-based professional education. The focus is on how can become a curricular resource to support learning theory or concepts and contentious sensitive issues, at time when neoliberal trends consumerist ideology technical vocationalism influence education universities generally. Students who enter programmes expecting emphasis work-related information risk missing content experiences designed foster their development as well-informed, curious, ethical professionals. Three tensions that emerged analysis are highlighted: un/applied, in/attentive, a/critical. After grounding study theoretically reviewing literature public pedagogy, those outlined using segments data suggest potential limitations pedagogical approach make both critical enjoyable.
