Enslavement between Worlds: Manuel Zapata’s Many Captive Mobilities
نویسندگان
چکیده
Black Africans who were forcibly transported across the Atlantic Ocean experienced myriad forms of coercion alongside Middle Passage. This article centres on mobilities Manuel Francisco Zapata, a man Wolof descent, born and raised Muslim in Meknes, Morocco. Captured enslaved by Spanish, he lived for several years Seville, was then trafficked to Cartagena de Indias Panama City before being tried Inquisition ‘Apostatic, Judaic propositions.’ His life narrative allows glimpse multiplicity captive mobilities—coerced movement through military labour, capture, imprisonment, trans-Atlantic voyage, arrest, exile—that endured. Captivity move central condition enslavement.

Against Many-Worlds Interpretations
This is a critical review of the literature on many-worlds interpretations (MWI), with arguments drawn partly from earlier critiques by Bell and Stein. The essential postulates involved in various MWI are extracted, and their consistency with the evident physical world is examined. Arguments are presented against MWI proposed by Everett, Graham and DeWitt. The relevance of frequency operators t...
متن کاملMany Worlds? An Introduction
This problem of getting the interpretation proved to be rather more difficult than just working out the equation. Ask not if quantum mechanics is true, ask rather what the theory implies. What does realism about the quantum state imply? What follows then, when quantum theory is applied without restriction, if need be to the whole universe? This is the question that this book addresses. The answ...
متن کاملMany-Events Theory for Many-Worlds Interpretation
The probabilistic prediction of quantum theory is mystery. In this paper I solved the mystery by Many-Events Theory. In this theory an absolute value of a wave function is a radius of a new space. This suggests the unification between quantum theory and the theory of relativity.
متن کاملIn so many possible worlds
Ordinary modal logic deals with the notion of a proposition being true in at least one possible world. This makes it natural to consider the notion of a proposition being true in n possible worlds for any nonnegative integer n. Such a notion would stand to Tarski’s numerical quantifiers as ordinary possibility stands to the existential quantifier. In this paper I present several logics for nume...
متن کاملMany worlds: decoherent or incoherent?
The Deutsch-Wallace-Everett programme is conceptually incoherent since its viability rests upon a notion of decoherence that conflicts with its own fundamental precepts in two respects. These problems are not alleviated by invoking the notion of emergent or robust structure, and are argued to be significant enough to cast doubt upon the viability of the entire neo-Everettian enterprise as it no...
