Enhancing nitrogen and rainwater use efficiency through rainwater harvesting in semi-arid smallholder sorghum (<i>Sorghum bicolor</i>) farming systems

نویسندگان

چکیده

Nitrogen and rainwater use efficiency in semi-arid smallholder farming systems is low due to soil fertility unreliable rainfall. The objective of this study was evaluate the effect harvesting mineral nitrogen fertilizer on under two sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) varieties. A split-split plot experiment, replicated three times, conducted Mt Zonwe area from 2016/17 2018/19. results showed that water content tied contour (TC) infiltration pits (IP) had significantly higher compared standard (SC) moisture decreased with an increase distance RWH practices. TC IP agronomic than SC across all applications, practice, seasons. Sorghum variety Macia indices Sc Sila at application 50 70 kg N/ha while >100 no difference both decreasing trend productivity shown Mineral increased up 100 beyond which there significant difference. Regardless season, each practice. This recommends integrated practices sustainably improve N systems.

Rainwater harvesting: A gardening necessity in semi-arid regions

This research aims to introduce the water supply method required for pistachio orchards in semi-arid climatic regions using the rainwater harvesting technique. For this purpose, a rain catchment system with an area of 1000 m2 was constructed at the Tasuj Station site. Based on the mean annual rainfall of the region, runoff threshold, runoff coefficient for insulation surfaces and the area of th...

Evaluation of water supply for olive trees through rainwater harvesting in semi-arid regions in Kohgiloyeh va Boyerahmad Province

Abstract Lack of stored soil moisture is an essential factor in intensification of the problems of arid and semi-arid areas in Kohgiloyeh va Boyerahmad Province. In these areas, limited surface water and groundwater have rendered vast areas of the region’s fertile lands useless. Despite these problems, appropriate conditions can be provided to plant resistant and adapted species such as olive...

A Methodology to Assess and Evaluate Rainwater Harvesting Techniques in (Semi-) Arid Regions

Arid and semi-arid regions around the world face water scarcity problems due to lack of precipitation and unpredictable rainfall patterns. For thousands of years, rainwater harvesting (RWH) techniques have been applied to cope with water scarcity. Researchers have used many different methodologies for determining suitable sites and techniques for RWH. However, limited attention has been given t...

Risk Analysis Approach to Rainwater Harvesting Systems

Urban rainwater reuse preserves water resources and promotes sustainable development in rapidly growing urban areas. The efficiency of a large number of urban water reuse systems, operating under different climate and demand conditions, is evaluated here on the base of a new risk analysis approach. Results obtained by probability analysis (PA) indicate that maximum efficiency in low demanding s...

Life cycle assessment of domestic and agricultural rainwater harvesting systems.

To further understanding of the environmental implications of rainwater harvesting and its water savings potential relative to conventional U.S. water delivery infrastructure, we present a method to perform life cycle assessment of domestic rainwater harvesting (DRWH) and agricultural rainwater harvesting (ARWH) systems. We also summarize the design aspects of DRWH and ARWH systems adapted to t...
