Enhancing high frequency sensitivity of gravitational wave detectors with a Sagnac interferometer

چکیده

Sensitivity of gravitational-wave detectors is limited in the high-frequency band by quantum shot noise and eventually optical loss signal recycling cavity. This limit main obstacle on way to detect gravitational waves from binary neutron star mergers current future generation detectors, as it does not depend either arm length, or injected squeezing level. In this paper, we come up with sloshing Sagnac interferometer topology, which can be obtained Michelson optically connecting end mirrors into an additional transforms a triply-coupled cavity system capable beating loss-induced signal-recycled interferometer. With advanced LIGO+ comparable parameters, sloshing-Sagnac scheme achieve 7 times better sensitivity at 2.5\,kHz 4 ratio for typical waveform post merge. Being evolution interferometer, possibly used topology upgrade detectors.

Sagnac interferometer for gravitational-wave detection.

We have investigated a zero-area Sagnac interferometer as a broad band gravitational-wave detector. Frequency response measurements of a laboratory-scale interferometer are in excellent agreement with theory. The measured contrast ratio, 0.996, is insensitive to induced birefringence, laser-frequency variation, arm imbalance, and dc mirror displacement. A near shot-noise-limited phase sensitivi...

Polarization Sagnac interferometer with postmodulation for gravitational-wave detection.

We describe a polarization Sagnac interferometer with an in-loop half-wave plate that allows signal detection at the reciprocal port of the beam splitter while maintaining the ability to detect the signal at a dark fringe. Postmodulation and balanced heterodyne detection are used to recover the signal. This topology is simple to control because of its common-path characteristics and its colline...

Laser-interferometer gravitational-wave optical-spring detectors

Using a quantum mechanical approach, we show that in a gravitationalwave interferometer composed of arm cavities and a signal recycling cavity, e.g., the LIGO-II configuration, the radiation-pressure force acting on the mirrors not only disturbs the motion of the free masses randomly due to quantum fluctuations, but also and more fundamentally, makes them respond to forces as though they were c...

Development of a frequency-detuned interferometer as a prototype experiment for next-generation gravitational-wave detectors.

We report on our prototype experiment that uses a 4-m detuned resonant sideband extraction interferometer with suspended mirrors, which has almost the same configuration as the next-generation, gravitational-wave detectors. We have developed a new control scheme and have succeeded in the operation of such an interferometer with suspended mirrors for the first time ever as far as we know. We bel...

The status of laser interferometer gravitational-wave detectors

There has been a rapid advance in the sensitivity of broadband searches for gravitational waves, using an international network of kilometer-scale laser interferometers. The LIGO detectors in North America, the GEO600 detector in Germany and the TAMA300 detector in Japan have conducted searches for gravitational waves covering a frequency range from below 100 Hz up to many kHz. These detectors ...
