Enhanced Torsion Mechanism of Small-Scale Reinforced Concrete Beams with Spiral Transverse Reinforcement

The nonlinear torsional behaviour of small-scale reinforced concrete (RC) beams with continuous staggered spiral as transverse reinforcement stirrups is experimentally investigated. Twelve miniatures RC were tested under torsion load considering the closed shape and compared ones. All scaled down to be one-eighth prototype beam size. main parameters considered in this research are stirrup spacing its configurations. Small scale taken into account existing study because their construction simplicity financial feasibility. Mortar without coarse aggregate was applied instead reduce size effect applying small models. Ongoing trials have been carried out obtain an efficacious approach boost failure mechanisms brittle structural elements should avoided. This emphasized boosted capacity, dissipated energy, helical crack propagation. During testing, primary cracking moment, ultimate peak twist angle, mechanism inspected. use showed great enhancement samples. It observed that using rather than could result a substantial increase capacity energy 87.7% 89.8%, respectively.
