Enhanced Removal of Non-Steroidal Inflammatory Drugs from Water by Quaternary Chitosan-Based Magnetic Nanosorbents

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are among the most common pharmaceuticals used worldwide. They widely detected in natural waters due to their persistence wastewater treatment, and removal is desirable management. As a contribution tackle this challenge, study explores magnetic quaternary chitosan-based nanosorbents for effective magnetically assisted of three NSAIDs (diclofenac, naproxen, ketoprofen) from water. Toward goal, silane groups were grafted onto backbone trimethyl chitosan through reaction with an epoxide functionalized silane. Once silanized, modified was employed coat Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The prepared materials characterized using FTIR spectroscopy solid-state 29Si 13C NMR spectroscopy, which confirmed encapsulation nanoparticles hybrid siliceous material enriched chitosan. effect initial concentration, pH, contact time adsorption behavior investigated. kinetic data well described by pseudo-second-order model, indicating chemisorption mechanism. maximum capacities estimated Langmuir model 188.5 mg/g (0.5925 mmol/g), 438.1 (1.7371 221.5 (0.8710 mmol/g) diclofenac, ketoprofen, respectively. These higher than those reported sorbents, potential these biosorbents remove selected low-energy separation.
