Enhanced Removal of As(V) and Pb(II) from Drinking and Irrigating Water Effluents Using Hydrothermally Synthesized Zeolite 5A

Zeolites 5A were obtained by ion exchange of a zeolite 4A, previously synthesized the hydrothermal method from precursor kaolin, with aim removal As(V) drinking water and Pb(II) irrigation surface water. Zeolite was characterized before after adsorption X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy. To find mechanisms both As Pb in real waters, experiments on kinetics, optimum pH, adsorbent dose, isotherms developed. Adsorption kinetics isotherm models evaluated, selection criterion for appropriate model made using residual sum squares (RSS) Bayesian information (BIC). result, higher than 95% 9 12 h, respectively. The estimated maximum capacities 36.35 mg g−1 46.67 g−1, is low-cost adsorbent, through which concentration less 0.01 L−1 water, below permissible limit established World Health Organization (WHO).
