چکیده

This study describes thermo-rheological properties of branched copolymer surfactants (BCSs) stabilizing oil-in-water emulsions to generate materials exhibiting temperature-dependent gelation with the ability solubilize a broad range molecules. Four poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-ran-poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (poly(NIPAM-ran-PEGMA)) BCSs varying molecular weight (Mn), 4.7; 7.0; 7.8 and 9.0 kg mol?1, are investigated via oscillatory shear rheology, small angle neutron scattering (SANS), reflectivity (NR). Rheological thermoscans show that stabilized by BCS lowest Mn (4.7 mol?1) thermo-thinning, while other display thermo-thickening behavior. Emulsions = mol?1 form gels within precise temperature window depending on concentration. Small data analysis suggests is present in two forms equilibrium, aggregates dispersed bulk water an adsorbed polymeric layer at oil/water interface. Changes dimensions these structures correlate macroscopic thermo-thinning/thermo-thickening behavior observed. Neutron conducted interface allow further elucidation systems.

Biocompatible surfactants for water-in-fluorocarbon emulsions.

Drops of water-in-fluorocarbon emulsions have great potential for compartmentalizing both in vitro and in vivo biological systems; however, surfactants to stabilize such emulsions are scarce. Here we present a novel class of fluorosurfactants that we synthesize by coupling oligomeric perfluorinated polyethers (PFPE) with polyethyleneglycol (PEG). We demonstrate that these block copolymer surfac...

Low-surface energy surfactants with branched hydrocarbon architectures.

Surface tensiometry and small-angle neutron scattering have been used to characterize a new class of low-surface energy surfactants (LSESs), "hedgehog" surfactants. These surfactants are based on highly branched hydrocarbon (HC) chains as replacements for environmentally hazardous fluorocarbon surfactants and polymers. Tensiometric analyses indicate that a subtle structural modification in the ...
