Engineering pest tolerance through plant-mediated RNA interference

نویسندگان

چکیده

Expression of insect-targeted RNA interference (RNAi) constructs in transgenic plants is a promising approach for agricultural pest control. Compared to conventional chemical insecticides, RNAi target specificity high and the potential negative environmental effects low. However, although numerous laboratory studies show insect growth inhibition by double stranded or artificial microRNA, few these have been moved into commercial application as genetically engineered plants. Variation degradation, uptake, processing, systemic transport insects can influence interspecific intraspecific differences efficacy development resistance settings. Further research needed, both identify optimal gene targets efficient species reduce off-target beneficial species.

Mathematical model of plant-virus interactions mediated by RNA interference.

Cross-protection, which refers to a process whereby artificially inoculating a plant with a mild strain provides protection against a more aggressive isolate of the virus, is known to be an effective tool of disease control in plants. In this paper we derive and analyse a new mathematical model of the interactions between two competing viruses with particular account for RNA interference. Our r...

Engineering silkworms for resistance to baculovirus through multigene RNA interference.

Bombyx mori nucleopolyhedrovirus (BmNPV) that infects the silkworm, B. mori, accounts for >50% of silk cocoon crop losses globally. We speculated that simultaneous targeting of several BmNPV essential genes in transgenic silkworm would elicit a stable defense against the virus. We introduced into the silkworm germline the vectors carrying short sequences of four essential BmNPV genes in tandem,...

Application of RNA interference ( RNAi ) by feeding to pest management

Mini review Application of RNA interference (RNAi) by feeding to pest management M1 Yuki Maruyama RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful tool to specifically suppress gene expression in both invertebrates and vertebrates, therefore, it has not only been used widely to study gene function in insects, also thought to be available for application to pest management. However, practical utilization w...

Tempo and mode of plant RNA virus escape from RNA interference-mediated resistance.

A biotechnological application of artificial microRNAs (amiRs) is the generation of plants that are resistant to virus infection. This resistance has proven to be highly effective and sequence specific. However, before these transgenic plants can be deployed in the field, it is important to evaluate the likelihood of the emergence of resistance-breaking mutants. Two issues are of particular int...
