Engineering of citrus to obtain huanglongbing resistance

چکیده

Huanglongbing (HLB) disease is threatening the sustainability of citriculture in affected regions because its rapid spread and severity symptoms it induces. Herein, we summarise main research findings that can be exploited to develop HLB-resistant cultivars. A major bottleneck has been lack a system for ex vivo cultivation HLB-associated bacteria (CLs) true plant hosts, which precludes evaluation target genes/metabolites reliable plant/pathogen/vector environments. With regard HLB vectors, several biotechnologies have proven laboratory settings effective insect control are presented. Finally, new genotypes resistant CLs or their vectors described, most relevant strategies fighting highlighted.

Transgenic Citrus Expressing an Arabidopsis NPR1 Gene Exhibit Enhanced Resistance against Huanglongbing (HLB; Citrus Greening)

Commercial sweet orange cultivars lack resistance to Huanglongbing (HLB), a serious phloem limited bacterial disease that is usually fatal. In order to develop sustained disease resistance to HLB, transgenic sweet orange cultivars 'Hamlin' and 'Valencia' expressing an Arabidopsis thaliana NPR1 gene under the control of a constitutive CaMV 35S promoter or a phloem specific Arabidopsis SUC2 (AtSU...

Current epidemiological understanding of citrus Huanglongbing .

Huanglongbing (HLB) is the most destructive citrus pathosystem worldwide. Previously known primarily from Asia and Africa, it was introduced into the Western Hemisphere in 2004. All infected commercial citrus industries continue to decline owing to inadequate current control methods. HLB increase and regional spatial spread, related to vector populations, are rapid compared with other arboreal ...

Overexpression of a Modified Plant Thionin Enhances Disease Resistance to Citrus Canker and Huanglongbing (HLB)

Huanglongbing (HLB or citrus greening disease) caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las) is a great threat to the US citrus industry. There are no proven strategies to eliminate HLB disease and no cultivar has been identified with strong HLB resistance. Citrus canker is also an economically important disease associated with a bacterial pathogen (Xanthomonas citri). In this study, we cha...

Citrus Bacterial Canker Disease and Huanglongbing (Citrus Greening)

IntRODUctIOn Compared with the rest of the world, the California citrus industry is relatively free of diseases that can impact growers’ profits. Unfortunately, exotic plant pathogens may become well established before they are recognized as such. This is primarily because some of the initial symptoms mimic other diseases, mineral deficiencies, or toxicities. In addition, development of disease...
