Energy savings from domestic zonal heating controls: robust evidence from a controlled field trial

چکیده
Domestic zonal heating controls enable hydronic systems to heat rooms different temperatures at times. The first credible evidence known the authors, of in-use energy savings such controls, is reported. results and research methods are globally relevant. demands room in 68, gas-heated, owner-occupied, semi-detached homes, English Midlands were monitored for a year before fitted 37 homes prior second monitoring. other retained existing so provided matched (control) group. Surveys questionnaires characterised dwellings, households. In two thirds with annual gas demand decreased, one third it increased. Overall, mean decreased by 3.5% relative that their controls. Savings achieved primarily reducing bedroom temperatures, especially evenings. Wireless, digital unlikely provide an acceptable payback through reductions bills today’s prices, but they offer households flexibility react time-of-use pricing. A group essential reliable calculation changes arising from interventions occupied homes.

Energy Savings in Cleanrooms from Demand-controlled Filtration
In cleanrooms, very low particle concentrations are maintained by recirculation of air at a high rate (e.g., 600 room air volumes per hour) through highly efficient air filters. We report results in a Class M3.5 (Class 100) cleanroom with 28 m (300 ft) floor area, where significant energy savings were realized by controlling the rate of air recirculation through the filters in response to real-...
متن کاملEnergy Savings via FDI? Empirical Evidence from Developing Countries
In this paper we examine the influence of foreign direct investment inflows on energy intensities of developing countries empirically. We first show that a simple OLS estimation, as it is found in the literature, suggests energy intensity reductions from FDI inflows, which is consistent with the hypothesis of energy saving technology transfer via FDI. However, such a regression turns out to be ...
متن کاملOperating Room Time Savings with the Use of Splint Packs: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: The most expensive variable in the operating room (OR) is time. Lean Process Management is being used in the medical field to improve efficiency in the OR. Streamlining individual processes within the OR is crucial to a comprehensive time saving and cost-cutting health care strategy. At our institution, one hour of OR time costs approximately $500, exclusive of supply and personnel...
متن کاملA Data-Driven Approach for Accurate Estimation and Visualization of Energy Savings from Advanced Lighting Controls
Despite occupancy-based switching and daylight-based dimming controls being widely believed to have tremendous energy saving potential, there is often a lot of variability in the actual savings across customer sites. A major challenge in a reliable, site-specific assessment of these advanced lighting controls is the skew associated with time-logging using a low-power clock. We develop a robust ...
متن کاملDurable Goods and Residential Demand for Energy and Water: Evidence from a Field Trial
This paper describes a household production model in which energy efficient durable goods cost less to operate so households may use them more. The model is estimated using householdlevel data from a field trial in which participants received high-efficiency clothes washers free of charge. The estimation strategy exploits this quasi-random replacement of washers to derive precise estimates of t...
