Energy-delay tradeoff for virtual machine placement in virtualized multi-access edge computing: a two-sided matching approach

By decoupling network functions from the underlying physical machines (PMs) at edge of networks, virtualized multi-access computing (MEC) enables deployment new services and elastic scaling to reduce maintenance costs in a more flexible, scalable cost-effective manner. Although there are appealing performance gains be achieved, placement virtual (VMs) on top sharing PMs support computation-intensive applications for smart mobile devices becomes major challenge, especially an increasing scale. In this paper, we attempt deal with VM problem MEC system, which is targeted finding balance between energy consumption computing/offloading delay. To capture such tradeoff placement, formulate weighted sum based cost minimization as pure 0–1 integer linear programming problem, NP-complete very difficult solve lower complexity. Based one-to-one mapping relation constraint, then converted into many-to-many two-sided matching instances PMs. Motivated by student project allocation develop extended algorithm computational complexity solving problem. Simulation results presented show effectiveness our proposed algorithm, normalization factor great significance obtain total cost.
