Enabling experimental characterization and prediction of ternary mixed-gas sorption in polymers: C2H6/CO2/CH4 in PIM-1

In this work, a new experimental protocol was designed to measure sorption of ternary gas mixtures in polymer membranes for the first time. We measured isotherms binary and C2H6, CO2, CH4 PIM-1, using pressure decay apparatus, working at constant composition variable phase. The results show competitive effects all analyzed, affecting each species proportion total sorbed concentration other components. It found that presence C2H6 mixture reduces both CO2 similar extent, so CO2/CH4 solubility-selectivity is not markedly affected. data were used validate predictions Non-Equilibrium Lattice Fluid (NELF) model isotherms. NELF generally close agreement, prediction effects, proving be reliable tool assess mixed-gas sorption, even complex scenarios.
