Emission Analysis of LNG Fuelled Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell System for a Chemical Tanker Ship: A Case Study

?Since sea transportation is one of the sources air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, so restrictive regulations are entering into force by International Maritime Organisation to cope with ship sourced emissions. Alternative energy generating systems key concepts fuel cells can be solutions for future shipping industry their fewer hazardous emissions compared diesel engines. In this perspective, a Liquefied Natural Gas using molten carbonate cell evaluated instead conventional marine engine chemical tanker ship. As case study, real navigation data gathered from company 27 voyages in 2018. Emissions calculated respecting types (marine oil heavy oil) designated Emission Control Areas both systems. The results show that more than 99% reduction SOx, PM, NOx 33% CO2 reached system. At last, seem very promising technologies especially limited powered vessels under 5 MW propulsion use as main engines complying current new coming emission limitations on way free shipping.
