Embodied Carbon Minimization for Single-Story Steel Gable Frames

As the construction industry, especially steel construction, contributes to a large portion of global greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable structural design has become necessity achieve world vision reaching net zero emissions by 2050. portal frames are most used system for single-story buildings, main objective this study is determine optimal frame configuration using prismatic and/or non-prismatic members least embodied carbon. Five different configurations considered under effect five distinct loading conditions. The results led developing charts consisting contour plots showing carbon per unit volume enclosed configurations, conditions, span lengths, and column heights. In addition, increasing number member divisions, variables, segments, average can be significantly reduced about 14.34% up 26.47% relative with only members.
