Elucidating the impact of feeding behaviour on body composition in finishing pigs fed ad libitum using an integrative feeding behaviour index

چکیده

Large variability in body composition is observed pigs fed and raised similar conditions. Part of this variation might be explained by the feeding behaviour pigs, given its effect on metabolic hormones associated with energy regulation protein metabolism. The objective study was to elucidate relationship examining a new index describing finishing pigs. Feeding information 138 during last 28 d phase from three trials were used. For each pig, sum areas between relative cumulative feed intake regression line for evolution over time used calculate index. This quantifies irregularity (IIFI) integrating different components into single measurement. Body lipids estimated dual X-ray densitometry at beginning (day 1) end 28). IIFI performance variables examined using correlation tests factor analysis within dataset. In datasets where correlated composition, linear models quantify contribution total composition. Weak moderate correlations (r = ±0.31 ±0.44; P < 0.05) found only 1 2. However, dataset 2, also daily - 0.54; 0.001). Irregular increased proportion (PdDG) decreased (LdDG) gain. accounted 8% 14% 10% 12% PdDG LdDG 2 1, respectively. Additionally, showed that number meals had high loadings separate factors or performance, suggesting are independent behaviour. conclusion, other than involved modulating ad libitum.

Feeding behaviour in rabbits

As a monogastric herbivore, the rabbit presents a unique feeding behaviour compared to other domestic animals, since he belongs to the Lagomorpha order (Leporidae family: rabbits and hares, Grassé and Dekeuser, 1955), and consequently possess a main specificity that is the caecotrophy. For recall (see details in chapter 1), the caecotrophy is a complete behaviour involving an excretion and an i...

Animal Behaviour: Feeding the Superorganism

Insect societies are often described as superorganisms, and there are many functional parallels between organisms and superorganisms. Elegant work using ants shows that nutrient regulation, which occurs in many non-social animals, can also occur at the colony-level.
