چکیده

Abstract A seawater reverse osmosis (RO) plant layout based on multistage RO with stages located at different elevations above sea level is described. The uses the weight of a column from pumped storage as head pressure for (gravity-driven RO) or to supplement high-pressure pumps used in (gravity-assisted RO). use gravitational force reduces specific energy compared using pumps. By locating demand sites, total consumption and permeate transport reduced that process entirely followed by lifting desalinated water. final stage pressurized recovery residual brine generated preceding stage. Examples do not include pump inefficiency losses pipes are described South Sinai, Egypt, which mountainous region suffers water scarcity. gravity-driven tank 660 m considered. For five 316–57 10% each stage, ~ 32% lower than operating minimum same quantity distributed stages. two 222 57 30 20% recovery, respectively, reduction 27%. gravity-assisted five-stage first 260 level, while last 32%. proposed layouts can be adapted other regions comparable topography.

Sustainable Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination as Green Desalination in the 21st Century

Seawater reverse osmosis desalination (SWRO) requires less energy compared with the distillation method and thus is an important technology except Middle Eastern countries whereenergy costs are higher. Recently, even Middle Eastern countries where the distillation method is still a major technology, have begun adopting the RO method in new desalinationplants in line with government ...

Novel Membrane Materials for Reverse Osmosis Desalination

The use of solvents in desalination processes limits the use of certain materials in the construction of the reverse osmosis membranes. Therefore now the research effort has focused on improving new materials. In particular, nanostructured materials will probably form the basis for new reverse osmosis membrane materials. This study makes a review of the new materials used for the construction o...

Optimization of the Sequence of Washing Reverse Osmosis Membranes Used for Seawater Desalination

Seawater contains a number of organic and inorganic components that cause fouling of membranes when subjected to a process of reverse osmosis desalination. This fouling is one of the most important problems in the management of desalination plants, as it entails a significant loss in system performance. For membranes to be able to continue operating under appropriate conditions, they must under...

Composition and variability of biofouling organisms in seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants.

Seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) membrane biofouling remains a common challenge in the desalination industry, but the marine bacterial community that causes membrane fouling is poorly understood. Microbial communities at different stages of treatment processes (intake, cartridge filtration, and SWRO) of a desalination pilot plant were examined by both culture-based and culture-independent approa...
