Electrostriction effects in space charge measurements with the pulsed electroacoustic method for ceramics

Abstract The pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) method is an established for space charge measurements in polymeric dielectrics. In view of the poorly understood impact on electrical resistivity and dielectric breakdown behavior ceramics, it desirable to adapt PEA technique these materials. However, this adaption non-trivial due constitutive properties which are, at least part, very different from that polymers. This contribution addresses a particular effect related electrostrictive ceramics theoretical level. It shown may cause inversion sign sound wave generated by voltage pulses when compared typical polymers, turn result incorrect interpretation measurement results. Using finding, reinterpretation previous experimental results suggests homo forms cathode sheets alumina subjected high voltages.
