چکیده

The Queensland fruit fly (Bactrocera tryoni) is a major polyphagous pest widespread in Australia and several Pacific Islands. Bacteria present on the host plant phyllosphere supply proteins, essential for egg development female sexual maturity. We investigated role of microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) emitted by Enterobacteriaceae commonly found gut attracting virgin females. were cultured artificial media natural fruits, at various pH, MVOCs collected using different headspace absorbent materials. olfactory responses females to bacterial assessed via electrophysiology behavioral assays. production was strongly influenced qualitatively strain type media, it semi-quantitatively varied with pH time. Klebsiella oxytoca invoked strongest antennal response most attractive. Among identified triggering an response, D-limonene 2-nonanone both significantly behaviorally attractive, whereas phenol, nonanal, isoamyl alcohol, some pyrazines appeared be repulsive. This study deepens our understanding chemical ecology between flies their symbionts paves way novel synthetic lures based specifically targeting

Electrophysiological and behavioral responses of Dendroctonus frontalis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) to volatiles isolated from conspecifics.

Olfactory sensitivity of the southern pine beetle, Dendroctonus frontalis Zimmermann, to compounds isolated from the mid/hindguts of newly emerged conspecific adults was assayed with coupled gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection. All previously reported pheromones for D. frontalis plus eight additional compounds (fenchyl alcohol, myrtenal, cis-verbenol, trans-pinocarveol, acetophen...

Electrophysiological and Behavioral Responses of Theocolax elegans (Westwood) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) to Cereal Grain Volatiles

Volatiles emitted by the host's food would be the first signals used by parasitoids in the host location process and are thought to play an important role in host habitat location. In this study, the olfactory responses of Theocolax elegans (Westwood), a Pteromalid wasp that parasitizes immature stages of stored-product insect pests developing inside cereal or leguminous grains, to volatiles em...

Behavioral and Electrophysiological Responses of the Mexican Fruit Fly (diptera: Tephritidae) to Guava Volatiles

The behavioral and electrophysiological responses of males and females of the Mexican fruit fly Anastrepha ludens (Loew) to guava ( Psidium guajava L.) volatiles were investigated in laboratory tests. Males and females were significantly more attracted and landed more often on guava fruits than yellow spheres used as control in the wind tunnel. Also, both sexes were more attracted to Porapak Q ...

Behavioral and Electrophysiological Responses of Listronotus maculicollis (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) to Volatiles From Intact and Mechanically Damaged Annual Bluegrass

Listronotus maculicollis Kirby is a highly destructive pest of low mown, cool-season turfgrasses in the northeastern United States and Canada. Behavioral and electrophysiological assays were conducted to identify compounds thatmaybeuseful in developingnovelmonitoring techniques. In Y-tube assays, males and females responded differently to volatiles from intact and clipped annual bluegrass (Poa ...
