Electronic Nose Analysis and Statistical Methods for Investigating Volatile Organic Compounds and Yield of Mint Essential Oils Obtained by Hydrodistillation

A major problem associated with the development of medicinal plant products is lack quick, easy, and inexpensive methods to assess monitor product quality. Essential oils are natural plant-derived volatile substances used worldwide for numerous applications. The important uses these valuable often induce producers create fraudulent or lower quality products. As a result, consumers place high value on authentic certified Mint valued essential oil in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, health industries. This study investigated use an experimental electronic nose (e-nose) detection steam-distilled oils. e-nose was evaluate analyze VOC emissions from (EO) distilled water extracts (DWEs) obtained mint plants different ages leaves dried shade sun prior hydrodistillation. Principal component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant (LDA), artificial neural networks (ANN) were performed electrical signals generated sensors classification emissions. More accurate discriminations DWEs sample VOCs than EO VOCs. proved be reliable fast tool identifying EO. age had no statistically significant effect concentration extracted leaves.
