Electromagnetic response of nanoparticles with a metallic core and a semiconductor shell

Abstract We study the interplay between localized surface plasmon resonances from metallic cores and electromagnetic semiconducting shells in core@shell nanoparticles optical near-infrared regions. To this end, we consider silver (Ag) spheres as plasmonically active with radii 20 nm, covered of silicon (Si) up to 160 nm thickness. use classical Lorenz-Mie theory calculate response an external field that reveals a high degree tunability Ag plasmons varying Si shell thickness, consequent merging their Mie resonances. In contrast pure systems, low-bandgap allows for unique interrelation its strong characteristic magnetic dipole mode resonance core. This control over forward backward scattering efficiencies accordance predictions based on Kerker conditions. Employing several other materials (Al@Si, Au@Si Ag@Ge), show approach tailoring absorption efficiencies, Kerker’s conditions, can be further generalized similar systems.
