Electroless Plating of Ni-P and Ni-P-PTFE on Micro-Arc Oxidation Coatings for Improved Tribological Performance

Although micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coatings are widely used for anti-wear protection of metals, they usually contain lots pores and exhibit high coefficient friction. In this work, porous MAO consisting Al2TiO5 were fabricated on the titanium substrate, then Ni-P Ni-P-polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) deposited via electroless plating to fill improve tribological performance. Electroless has wear resistance incorporated PTFE particles have self-lubricating property. Results show that micro-pores coating completely filled by Ni-P-PTFE, distributed uniformly in coating. For MAO-Ni-P-PTFE coating, components mechanically interlocked played a load-carrying role during test, dispersed produced low Compared with MAO-Ni-P coatings, exhibited much lower friction rate.
