Electrohydrodynamic viscous fingering of leaky dielectric fluids in a channel

چکیده
Viscous fingering is a commonly observed interfacial instability during fluid displacement, where fingerlike shape formed at the interface when more viscous displaced by less fluid. In this study, hybrid numerical model based on lattice Boltzmann method and finite difference developed for investigating control of leaky dielectric fluids confined in channel using electrohydrodynamics. Extensive simulations are carried out studying effects strength direction electric field as well properties, including permittivity ratio conductivity ratio, fingering. It shown that horizontal field, i.e., electrical perpendicular to motion, can either promote or suppress fingering, depending ratio. For vertical extent promotion first decreases then increases with increase constant Also, various morphologies, such broad fingers thin jets, under different properties. A phase diagram both established ratios characterize morphologies. This study offers insight into electrohydrodynamic fluids, which could facilitate multiphase flow applications, enhanced oil recovery coupled chromatographic systems separation.

Viscous Fingering in Miscible, Immiscible and Reactive Fluids
With the Lattice Boltzmann method (using the BGK approximation) we investigate the dynamics of Hele-Shaw flow under conditions corresponding to various experimental systems. We discuss the onset of the instability (dispersion relation), the static properties (characterization of the interface) and the dynamic properties (growth of the mixing zone) of simulated Hele-Shaw systems. We examine the ...
متن کاملElectrohydrodynamic Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability of Two Rotating Dielectric Fluids
A linear stability analysis of a novel electrohydrodynamic Kelvin-Helmholtz system consisting of the superposition of two uniformly rotating dielectric media is presented. The characteristic equation for such an arrangement is derived, which in turn yields a stability criterion for velocity differences of disturbances at a given rotation frequency. The conditions of stability for long and short...
متن کاملFluctuations in viscous fingering.
Our experiments on viscous (Saffman-Taylor) fingering in Hele-Shaw channels reveal finger width fluctuations that were not observed in previous experiments, which had lower aspect ratios and higher capillary numbers Ca. These fluctuations intermittently narrow the finger from its expected width. The magnitude of these fluctuations is described by a power law, Ca(-0.64), which holds for all aspe...
متن کاملNonextensive statistics in viscous fingering
Measurements in turbulent flows have revealed that the velocity field in nonequilibrium systems exhibits q-exponential or power law distributions in agreement with theoretical arguments based on nonextensive statistical mechanics. Here we consider Hele-Shaw flow as simulated by the Lattice Boltzmann method and find similar behavior from the analysis of velocity field measurements. For the trans...
