Electrocoagulation process for the decolorization of wastewater containing Reactive Red 195 and CFD simulation of the hydrodynamic in a continuous-flow single-channel reactor

Abstract The highly colored textile effluents require efficient treatment before being released into the environment. In this study, a continuous-flow single-channel reactor operating in closed- circuit was used to apply electrocoagulation for of synthetic wastewater. First, characterization hydrodynamic within is evaluated by Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation using k-ε turbulence model (Comsol Multiphysics®). Apart from non-uniform distribution velocities inside reactor, no particular anomaly observed. Second, decolorization efficiency examined under various current intensities, electrolysis times, and initial dye concentrations. By intensity 100 mA instead 50 mA, required time achieve 80% decreased 40%, while specific electrode consumption remained slightly unchanged at about 0.19 kg Al·kg−1. At an 26 min, increase concentration 10 mg·L−1 remarkably kept constant 0.15 Al·kg−1 removed. knowledge obtained through study can be transposition batch continuous mode.
