Electrochemical cascade reactions for electro-organic synthesis

Electrochemical cascades are an attractive tool for use in organic synthesis, providing elegant pathway one-pot synthesis of important chemical feedstocks. These cascade reactions typically consist electrochemical redox event that enables several (two or more) subsequent spontaneous reactions. While classic require stoichiometric amounts reagents, especially reactive methods replace reagents with applied potential, offering a more sustainable synthetic route high atom economy. This review highlights advances the rapidly growing field by highlighting metal-mediated, metal-free, and bioelectrocatlytic electro-organic synthesis. As systems embrace complexity modern catalysis, there is likely to be greater increases selectivity efficiency.
