Foodborne illnesses resulting from bacterial pathogens pose an increasing threat to human health worldwide. The ability more rapidly and sensitively detect bacteria in food samples is critical ensure safety minimize the risk of exposure potential hazards. A highly sensitive electrochemical sensing platform was developed for detection Escherichia coli (E. coli) on fresh leafy vegetables. assembled based utilizing genetically engineered bacteriophage T7 encoding with phoA gene as a biorecognition element that can trigger alkaline phosphatase enzyme over-expression upon target infection. followed electrochemically using single-wall carbon nanotube-modified screen-printed electrode. bacteriophage-based sensor able provide rapid accurate quantification pathogenic E. spinach leaves at concentration range 1–104 CFU mL?1 within 1 h after pre-enrichment. Moreover, biosensor exhibited high specificity toward presence other common contaminants. success this approach provides be stretched out sensitivity selectivity different targeted contaminant reduce analysis time by coupling between specifically bacteriophages methods.
