Electricity as an effective weed control tool in non‐crop areas

چکیده
Abstract While weed management is often thought of as an agricultural issue, weeds are also problematic for homeowners, public space managers and utilities. In these situations, typically hand‐pulled, mechanically treated or managed via herbicides. Hand pulling mechanical treatments labour‐intensive, all control methods may have unintended off‐target impacts, necessitating new alternatives control. We developed a method using electricity to effectively manage unwanted plants. A series experiments was conducted with the aim developing operating protocols consideration specific scenarios: we tested system on Morus alba (mulberry) Ulmus pumila saplings, determined response Tamarix spp. (tamarisk) different doses, evaluated pre‐emergent in xeriscaping, ability prevent climbing growth by vine Convolvulus arvensis (field bindweed). Tests M . U demonstrated that low doses applied over several days effective killing trees up 20 cm diameter. The experiment showed plants displayed typical dose–response characteristics higher leading less plant growth. Results excellent growth, plots having mean cover 4% compared 94% after 4 months. Finally, shown be 100% preventing C from poles. Our results indicate viable alternative manual, chemical small tree control, prevention weeds.

Reduced herbicide rates for an effective weed control in competitive wheat cultivars
A study was carried out over 2 years (2008/2009 and 2009/2010) in Greece, in order to evaluate the weed control using reduced rates of the herbicide mesosulfuron-methyl+iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium of four major weeds (Avena sterilis, Phalaris minor, Papaver rhoeas and Sinapis arvensis), grain yield and yield components of five wheat cultivars (Bob, Cosmodur, Meridiano, Quadrato and Simeto). The ...

Exotic invasive plants present one of the greatest challenges to natural resource management. These weeds can alter entire communities and ecosystems, substantially degrading important ecosystem services such as forage for wild and domestic herbivores, water and soil quality, recreational values, and wildlife habitat. Traditionally, weed management in natural areas has focused on removing the t...
متن کاملInterdiction problem as a tool to identify an effective budget allocation to quality improvement plans
In the face of budgetary limitations in organizations, identifying critical facilities for investing in quality improvement plans could be a sensible approach. In this paper, hierarchical facilities with specified covering radius are considered. If disruption happens to a facility, its covering radius will be decreased. For this problem, a bi-objective mathematical formulation is proposed. Crit...
