Elastohydrodynamic Simulation of Pneumatic Sealing Friction Considering 3D Surface Topography

Abstract This contribution presents an elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) model for pneumatic spool valves. For accurate estimation of the transient friction this tribological sealing system, surface topography cylindrical counterfaces valve housings are measured and analyzed with optical measurement instrument. Based on data, properties flow factors system derived. It has been found that consideration a significant influence simulation results EHL model, lowering calculated force by up to 20 %.
