Elasticity versus phase field driven motion in the phase field crystal model

چکیده

The inherent inconsistency in identifying the phase field crystal Theory with material mass and, simultaneously, distortion is discussed. In its current implementation, elastic relaxation occurs on a diffusive time scale through dissipative permeation mode. very same that included solid elasticity drives motion, resulting non physical of crystal. We present two alternative theories to remedy this shortcoming. first case, it assumed only determines incompatible part distortion, and therefore one free specify an additional compatible so as satisfy mechanical equilibrium at all times (in quasi static limit). A numerical solution new model for case dislocation dipole shows that, unlike classical model, can account known law relative motion dislocations dipole. origin strain theory remains be specified. Therefore, second presented which explicit coupling between independent accounts dependence fluctuations both. Preliminary details implementation are also given.

Nonlinear elasticity of the phase-field crystal model from the renormalization group.

The rotationally covariant renormalization group equations of motion for the density wave amplitudes in the phase field crystal model are shown to follow from a dynamical equation driven by an effective free energy density that we derive. We show that this free energy can be written purely as a function of the strain tensor and thence derive the corresponding equations governing the nonlinear e...

An efficient algorithm for solving the phase field crystal model

We present and discuss the development of an unconditionally stable algorithm used to solve the evolution equations of the Phase Field Crystal (PFC) model. This algorithm allows for an arbitrarily large algorithmic time step. As the basis for our analysis of the accuracy of this algorithm, we determine an effective time step in Fourier space. We then compare our calculations with a set of repre...

Amplitude expansion of the binary phase-field-crystal model.

Amplitude representations of a binary phase-field-crystal model are developed for a two-dimensional triangular lattice and three-dimensional bcc and fcc crystal structures. The relationship between these amplitude equations and the standard phase-field models for binary-alloy solidification with elasticity are derived, providing an explicit connection between phase-field-crystal and phase-field...

Derivation of the phase-field-crystal model for colloidal solidification.

The phase-field-crystal model is by now widely used in order to predict crystal nucleation and growth. For colloidal solidification with completely overdamped individual particle motion, we show that the phase-field-crystal dynamics can be derived from the microscopic Smoluchowski equation via dynamical density-functional theory. The different underlying approximations are discussed. In particu...

Multi - Phase - Field Model for the Motion ofMultiple

A general class of anisotropic multi-phase-eld models is proposed to describe the motion of multiple interfaces that may intersect at multiple junctions. The model reduces to classical sharp interface models in the limit of vanishing interfacial thickness. Numerical simulations show that our model is capable to recover generic features of grain growth such as crystalline curvature ow, an anisot...
