EFL teachers’ perceptions on professional development for language proficiency maintenance and improvement

<span lang="EN-US">This case study investigated the phenomenon of English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers’ perceptions professional development (PD) related to proficiency, which has become critical issue in field EFL teaching and played an important role facilitating students learn well. Interview guides were employed main instrument elicit information about PD activities proficiency maintenance improvement, comprising closed-ended open-ended items. The participants six teachers who have had 5 30 years experience, selected from high schools capital city Indonesia. Data analyzed descriptively result frequencies importance levels qualitatively explore patterns activities. results showed that two factors affecting participants’ acknowledgement activities: need maintain improve benefits for learning. It is recommended Indonesian develop self-awareness improving their skills not only pedagogically but also professionally realize particular imperative help them keep professionalism high. </span>
