Computationally Efficient Calculation of Aerodynamic Flows
A method is presented to construct computationally efficient reduced order models (ROMs) of three dimensional aerodynamic flows around commercial aircraft components. The method is based on the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) of a set of steady snapshots, which are calculated using an industrial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver. The POD-mode amplitudes are calculated minimizing a...
متن کاملFourier time spectral method for subsonic and transonic flows
The time accuracy of the exponentially accurate Fourier time spectral method (TSM) is examined and compared with a conventional 2nd-order backward difference formula (BDF) method for periodic unsteady flows. In particular, detailed error analysis based on numerical computations is performed on the accuracy of resolving the local pressure coefficient and global integrated force coefficients for ...
متن کاملAn Efficient Method for Aerodynamic Shape Optimization
We present simultaneous pseudo-timestepping as an efficient method for aerodynamic shape optimization. In this method, instead of solving the necessary optimality conditions by iterative techniques, pseudo-time embedded nonstationary system is integrated in time until a steady state is reached. The main advantages of this method are that it requires no additional globalization techniques and th...
متن کاملAn Inverse Method for Subcritical Flows
The inverse problem in the tangent gas approximation is considered. An exact method for designing airfoils is presented. Constraints on the speed distribution are easily implemented. A simple numerical algorithm which is fast and accurate is presented. Comparison of designed airfoils using the tangent gas method with exact Euler results is found to be excellent for subcritical flows.
متن کاملStability of Subsonic Jet Flows
An overview of recent experimental results on instability and dynamics of jets at low Reynolds numbers is given. Round and plane, macro and micro jets are under the consideration. Basic features of their evolution affected by initial conditions at the nuzzle outlet and environmental perturbations are demonstrated.
