Efficient chemical stabilization of tannery wastewater pollutants in a single step process: Geopolymerization

Abstract The treatment of tannery wastewaters is a complex task due to the complexity waste: mixture several pollutants, both anionic and cationic as well organic macromolecules which are very hard treat for disposal all together. Geopolymers class inorganic binders obtained by alkali activation aluminosilicate powders at room temperature. Such process leads cement like matrix that drastically decreases mobility components via entrapment. This taking place in can be hypothesized in-situ formation zeolite structures. In this work we use metakaolin based geopolymer tackle problem directly an actual industrial environment. To obtain geopolymer, was mixed with 10 wt% wastewater added sodium hydroxide silicate activating solutions. allowed rapid consolidation temperature, average compressive strength between 14 43 MPa. Leaching tests performed different aging times confirm high immobilization efficiency close 100%. particular, only 0.008 2.31% Chromium Chlorides respectively released leaching test after 7 months aging.
