Effects of Zn Addition on the Microstructure, Tensile Properties and Formability of As-Extruded Mg-1Sn-0.5Ca Alloy

In the present study, influence of Zn content (0.0, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 wt.%) on microstructure, texture, tensile mechanical properties formability Mg-1.0Sn-0.5Ca-based alloys after extrusion were investigated via Mg sheets analysis extruded materials. Adding improved microstructure uniformity accelerated formation more CaMgSn Ca2Mg6Zn3 phase. addition, addition Zn, texture evolved from initial direction tilted bimodal to a weakened symmetrical texture. Compared with Mg-1.0Sn-0.5Ca alloy, average yield strength elongation values simultaneously 0.5 wt.% due synergistic effect solid solution elemental decreased amount coarse unrecrystallized grains, existence an additional component. The first increased then increasing content. contrast, deterioration further was closely associated volume fractions phases.
