Effects of Waste Cooking Oil Biodiesel on Performance, Combustion and Emission Characteristics of a Compression Ignition Engine

With their higher sustainability index, biofuels, environmentally-friendly and renewable nature is a viable alternative energy source in the transportation sector. This study presents effect of waste cooking oil (WCO) biodiesel on performance, combustion, emission from compression ignition engine. The was blended with diesel varying proportions 5% 95% (designated as B5), 10% (B10), 15% (B15), 20% (B20), 50% (B50), 85% (B85). Simulation 2-cylinder engine fueled diesel, blends pure carried out using Ricardo Wave software results obtained were validated. speed varied 1200 rpm to 3200 at full load condition positive valve overlap 32°. Performance showed that WCO produce brake-specific fuel consumption of, 0.240109 kg/kWhr, 0.241996 0.244331 0.24661 0.26089 0.27947 kg/kWhr 0.28798 for B5, B10, B15, B20, B50, B85 B100 respectively, compared 0.239383 while brake power torque reduced speed. Combustion analysis similar trends between whereas produced shorter delay, combustion duration, lower heat release rate. Emission levels CO, by 1%, 10%, 15%, 22%, 48%, 68% 74% respectively 1600 when fuel. HC 9% B100. NO<sub>x</sub> slightly increased B20 B10 B15 exhaust gas temperature (EGT) than 2400 EGT Generally, better other performance are within acceptable limits.
