Effects of using ammonia as a primary fuel on engine performance and emissions in an ammonia/biodiesel dual?fuel CI engine

Ammonia is a promising alternative fuel that can replace current fossil fuels. Hydrogen carrier, zero carbon base emissions, liquid unlike hydrogen, and be produced using renewable resources, making ammonia future green for the internal combustion engine. This study aims to show procedure of utilizing as primary with biodiesel in dual-fuel mode. Hence, single-cylinder diesel engine was retrofitted inject into intake manifold, then pilot dose sprayed cylinder initiate premixed ammonia-air mixture. The effects various mass flow rates constant on performance emissions were investigated. Furthermore, one-dimensional model has been developed analyze biodiesel. results reveal 69.4% input energy replaced by but increasing rate slightly decreases brake thermal efficiency. Moreover, load contribution significantly reduced CO2, CO, HC increased emission NO. It found delayed start 2.6CAD compared pure due low in-cylinder temperature high resistance autoignition. However, duration biodiesel/ammonia decreased 19CAD only operation at full load, since most heat released during phase. Highlights CI investigated experimentally.
