Effects of Thermal Barrier Coated Piston on Performance and Combustion Characteristics in Dual-Fuel Common-Rail Diesel Engine

In this study, performance and combustion characteristics of dual fuel operations (biogas, biogas+hydrogen) were experimentally analyzed compared with corresponding baseline diesel in four-cylinder, common-rail engine without thermal barrier coated piston. Tests conducted at three different loads (50 Nm, 75 100 Nm) a constant speed 1750 min-1. Engine pistons Yttria Stabilized Zirconia material by atmospheric plasma spray method. Results showed that cylinder pressure, heat release rate knock intensity for all fuels under the piston higher than those uncoated engine. Heat cumulative gaseous comparatively earlier fuel. Combustion duration was longer dual-fuel modes increased load fuels. With operations, volumetric efficiency reduced but exhaust gas temperature to operation standard LHR engines. Brake specific energy consumption unfavorably affected both types.
