Effects of texture and stress sequence on twinning, detwinning and fatigue crack initiation in extruded magnesium alloy AZ31

چکیده

Several types of cyclic stress were applied to specimens made an extruded magnesium alloy, AZ31, elucidate twinning, detwinning, and fatigue crack initiation mechanisms by electron backscattered diffraction analysis. In both the texture random orientation, twinning occurred under compressive exceeding yield strength. Detwinning only in upon subsequent application tensile less than strength monotonic loading, whereas detwinning did not occur structure with orientation. Under compression–compression test, successive occurred, which changed orientation basal plane. As a result, grains normal plane was parallel loading direction. Cracks formed along boundary high Schmid factor slip system misfit grain on sides large. Near site, twin bands observed; however, after compression loading.

Hot Deformation Mechanisms in AZ31 Magnesium Alloy Extruded at Different Temperatures: Impact of Texture

The hot deformation characteristics of AZ31 magnesium alloy rod extruded at temperatures of 300 °C, 350 °C and 450 °C have been studied in compression. The extruded material had a fiber texture with > < 0 1 10 parallel to the extrusion axis. When extruded at 450 °C, the texture was less intense and the > < 0 1 10 direction moved away from the extrusion axis. The processing maps for the material...

In-Situ Evaluation of Detwinning Behavior in Extruded AZ31 Mg Alloy by AE

Tension twinning readily occurs under compressive loading along extrusion direction because extruded AZ31 Mg plate has the texture with the basal planes parallel to the extrusion direction. Detwinning occurs in the twinned areas during tensile loading in the opposite direction. In this study, acoustic emission (AE) during the tensile test was investigated for the evaluation of detwinning behavi...

Strain-induced Texture Development in the Magnesium Alloy Az31

Magnesium alloys are receiving increasing attention as a structural material in vehicles to reduce weight and increase fuel economy. Understanding the formability of lightweight alloys is one key to their successful introduction in vehicles. We present results of X-Ray diffraction and electron back-scatter diffraction texture measurements in as-cast and uniaxially compressed AZ31 for a variety ...

Side Effects of Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Initiation Life

Shot peening beneficial effects on fatigue life of mechanical components are well known. However, there are some reports in the literature that indicate inappropriate shot peening parameters tend to reduce the fatigue life. It is therefore, the purpose of this study to find a logical quantitative justification for these observations. Using finite element method, a dynamic elastic-plastic simula...

The effect of twinning on texture evolution during ECAP processing of an AM30 magnesium alloy

An AM30 magnesium alloy was processed through ECAP method at 200 °C. Optical and transmission electron microscopy as well as electron back scattered diffraction (EBSD) technique were employed to characterize the deformed microstructure. A partially recrystallized microstructure including ultrafine/nano structures was obtained. The area fraction of 49% was measured for the recrystallized regions...
