Effects of Road Components and Roadside Vegetation on Temperature Reduction in Seoul Considering Air, Wet-Bulb Globe, and Surface Temperatures

Urbanization has resulted in high temperatures cities, which are exacerbated by an increase urban impervious surfaces (road space). This study investigated the effect of road characteristics on roadside temperature. Different temperature indices were measured at four sites Seoul with different designs using weather measuring devices and infrared thermal cameras. The differences between air decreased from site 1 (no vegetation) to 4 (roadside trees vegetated medians). analysis results showed that wet-bulb globe surface sensitively changed according characteristics, unlike lowest consistently observed 4. cooling tendency was strongest afternoon, indicates effectiveness vegetation for preventing commonly rise afternoon. That is, median strip can prevent contribute reduction. Therefore, more planting, as well taller denser along roads, be used provide a greater reduction improve climates.
