چکیده

We evaluated the effects of propylene glycol (PG) on in vitro ruminal fermentation, methanogenesis, and microbial community structure. A completely randomized design was conducted incubation, 4 culture PG dose levels (0, 7.5, 15, 22.5 μL/g dry matter) were used trial. Based fermentation results, control group (0 matter, CON) second treatment (15.0 TRT) chosen for further analysis to explore bacterial archaeal The concentrations propanol, propanal, succinate increased linearly, whereas concentration l-lactate decreased linearly as doses increased. molar proportion propionate demonstrated a linear increase with increasing doses. In contrast propionate, acetate butyrate, acetate-to-propionate ratio addition markedly methane production without negative nutrient degradability. level, relative abundance Methanobrevibacter tended decrease, but that Methanomassiliicoccus significantly TRT group. At Bacteroidetes Prevotella numerically higher than CON Negativicutes class showed Succiniclasticum increase, Selenomonas decrease These results might be an inhibitor mitigate emission. However, small will limit application practices. Further research is needed determine whether use together other inhibitors may improve utilization reducing equivalents ([H]) production.

Ruminal fermentation of propylene glycol and glycerol.

Bovine rumen fluid was fermented anaerobically with 25 mM R-propylene glycol, S-propylene glycol, or glycerol added. After 24 h, all of the propylene glycol enantiomers and approximately 80% of the glycerol were metabolized. Acetate, propionate, butyrate, valerate, and caproate concentrations, in decreasing order, all increased with incubation time. Addition of any of the three substrates somew...

Effects of Gelidium amansii extracts on in vitro ruminal fermentation characteristics, methanogenesis, and microbial populations

OBJECTIVE Gelidium amansii (Lamouroux) is a red alga belonging to the family Gelidaceae and is commonly found in the shallow coasts of many East Asian countries, including Korea, China, and Japan. G. amansii has traditionally been utilized as an edible alga, and has various biological activities. The objective of this study was to determine whether dietary supplementation of G. amansii could be...

Effects of Flavonoid-rich Plant Extracts on In vitro Ruminal Methanogenesis, Microbial Populations and Fermentation Characteristics

The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro effects of flavonoid-rich plant extracts (PE) on ruminal fermentation characteristics and methane emission by studying their effectiveness for methanogenesis in the rumen. A fistulated Holstein cow was used as a donor of rumen fluid. The PE (Punica granatum, Betula schmidtii, Ginkgo biloba, Camellia japonica, and Cudrania tricuspidata) kn...

Effect of Rhodophyta extracts on in vitro ruminal fermentation characteristics, methanogenesis and microbial populations

OBJECTIVE Due to the threat of global warming, the livestock industry is increasingly interested in exploring how feed additives may reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions, especially from ruminants. This study investigated the effect of Rhodophyta supplemented bovine diets on in vitro rumen fermentation and rumen microbial diversity. METHODS Cannulated Holstein cows were used as rumen...

Effects of Medicinal Herb Extracts on In vitro Ruminal Methanogenesis, Microbe Diversity and Fermentation System

This study was aimed to evaluate the in vitro effects of medicinal herb extracts (MHEs) on ruminal fermentation characteristics and the inhibition of protozoa to reduce methane production in the rumen. A fistulated Hanwoo was used as a donor of rumen fluid. The MHEs (T1, Veratrum patulum; T2, Iris ensata var. spontanea; T3, Arisaema ringens; T4, Carduus crispus; T5, Pueraria thunbergiana) were ...
