Effects of physical therapy intervention in the management of neuromyelitis optica: a case report

چکیده
Abstract Background Neuromyelitis optica is a rare immune-mediated demyelinating central nervous system disorder affecting the spinal cord and optic nerves. There no permanent cure for this disease, its management requires multidisciplinary approach. Objective The objective of case report to see effectiveness physical therapy in neuromyelitis Optica. Methods A 13-year-old female with symptoms left side weakness, balance, gait impairments administered 2-week exercise protocol including progressive resistance training strength improvements, virtual reality gaming balance stability modified constraint-induced movement upper extremity functioning activities daily living (ADLs). Pre- post-outcome measures include manual muscle testing (MMT) scores strength, ProKin TecnoBody assessment stability, Functional Independence Measure (FIM), Capabilities Upper Questionnaire (CUE-Q) ADLs. Results showed marked improvement MMT, FIM, CUE, post-intervention. Conclusion Physical effective optica.
