Effects of Methanol Application on Carbon Emissions and Pollutant Emissions Using a Passenger Vehicle

Methanol, as a promising carbon-neutral fuel, has become research hotspot worldwide. In this study, pure gasoline and blended with five different volume ratios of methanol (10%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 75%) were selected test fuels, which referred to M0, M10, M20, M30, M50, M75. The experiments on carbon pollutant emissions performance carried out passenger vehicle direct injection (GDI) turbocharged engine using the steady-state, new European driving cycle (NEDC), acceleration approaches. results show that under steady-state conditions, blending ratio increases, fuel consumption increases. Compared gasoline, equivalent CO2 are reduced by 0.95 L/100 km (10.6%) 18.95 g/km (9.6%) in maximum extent fueling M75, respectively. NEDC, M30 5.46 (3.7%) compared gasoline. After CO increase, NOx, THC, PM decrease. time is shortened increase methanol. application reduces combustion 10% improves emissions.
